Mechanism of Deformation in Glass Reinforced Plastic Pipe Installation
Based on the classification theory of rigid and flexible pipes, glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes belong to the category of flexible pipes, such as steel pipes and PVC pipes. During burial, flexible pipelines resist external loads through the mutual constraint between the pipeline and the surrounding soil, forming a soil-pipeline system with two elements. According to the AWWA C950-95 standard, the pipeline can withstand deformation in the vertical direction after being buried.
Based on our company's years of experience, the stiffness for rings with a burial depth not exceeding 3 meters is generally selected as follows: rings with a diameter of 600-1000 have a stiffness of 800 N/m², rings with a diameter of 1200-1600 have a stiffness of 10,000 N/m², and rings with a diameter of 1800-2400 have a stiffness of 12,000 N/m². For rings between 3 meters and 7 meters in depth, the stiffness is 10,000 N/m². The ER 600-1000 rings have a stiffness of 12,000 N/m², the 1200-1600 diameter rings have a stiffness of 12,000 N/m², the 1800-1800 diameter rings have a stiffness of 12,000 N/m², and the 1800-2400 diameter rings have a stiffness of 12,000 N/m². For rings below 3 meters in diameter, the stiffness is 12,000 N/m². Choose a stiffness of 15,000 N/m² for the 2400 diameter. It is not necessary to select a stiffness higher than 15,000 N/m², as higher stiffness will inevitably increase the pipe's brittleness.
