Glass-Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) Sand Coated Pipes: Function and Application Scope The primary application fields of GFRC sand coated pipes include: drinking water supply pipes; sewage collection and transportation pipelines, reclaimed water pipelines; municipal water supply and drainage pipelines; seawater transportation pipelines, and various other buried pipelines. GFRC sand coated pipes exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and a long service life. These pipes can withstand long-term corrosion from various chemicals such as acids, bases, salts, organic solvents, and seawater, as well as wastewater. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sand-laying pipes offer mechanical properties. These FRP pipes have a low density (1.8~2.1 g/cm³) and high strength (≥300 MPa), with a specific strength far exceeding that of steel and cast iron pipes. This is due to the inclusion of resin mortar in the middle layer of the pipe wall, which significantly enhances the pipe's rigidity, making it suitable for installation in various soil environments and underwater. Their hydraulic properties are superior; the inner and outer surfaces of FRP pipes are extremely smooth with low friction resistance (n≤0.0084), which can significantly reduce pressure loss along the pipeline and increase flow rate. Under the same flow rate conditions, smaller pipe diameters or less powerful transport pumps can be used, thereby reducing initial engineering costs and energy consumption (lowering operational costs).
Fiberglass-reinforced sand lined pipes offer excellent design flexibility, with a wide range of standard sizes that can be customized through material selection, bend radius, and layup design to accommodate different working pressures, media, and stiffness requirements, ultimately producing glass steel pipes of various pressure grades and special functions. These pipes are resistant to fouling, with a smooth inner surface that prevents scaling and the growth of algae and other microorganisms, ensuring no secondary pollution to water quality. Pipes made from food-grade resins are suitable for transporting drinking water; fiberglass-reinforced sand lined pipes also feature minimal joints.
Seamless fiberglass pipes typically measure 12 meters in length, featuring double "O" ring seals for socket joints, with each joint pressure-tested for reliable sealing. Fiberglass-reinforced sand pipes are lightweight, easy to transport and install, weighing only 1/4 of the same size and length of Ductile Iron pipes and 1/10 of cement pipes. They are convenient for handling and offer high installation efficiency at a low cost.
