How to Open a Ductile Iron Manhole Cover
There are several types; some cast iron manhole covers have hinges (hinged covers), while others do not. You can use a rod that can fit into the manhole cover hole (or a larger screwdriver), insert it into the hole, "hook" it, then pull upwards. Once there's a gap between the cover and the rim, insert something to prop it up, and once you can reach in, lift and open it by hand.
Step 2: Reach down into the handle hole of the ductile iron manhole cover with a hook and pull up at the bottom of the cover. If it still doesn't open, use a crowbar to pry it open. If that doesn't work, purchase a manhole cover opening tool.
3. The ductile iron manhole cover features two holes. Insert a crowbar (either iron rod or rebar) and angle it while lifting. Once it's lifted slightly, maneuver it.
Section II: How to Open Old-Style Water Meter Covers
Old-style meter covers are sealed with lead, so if you need to remove them, first cut the nylon rope or wire securing the seal. Typically, this is done with tools like a crescent wrench or a large pipe clamp by turning counterclockwise. However, you can also open it with a simple method: use a 10mm hexagon screw about 10cm long and a hammer. Strike the protruding point on the cover counterclockwise until it loosens. Now, for electronic meters, it's best to leave it to the professionals!
How to Open the Glass Cover of a Water Meter
To remove the lead seal on the water meter, use a pipe wrench to open the copper cover. Replace it with a new one (don't forget the sealing ring) and then reattach the cover with the pipe wrench. The water meter is an instrument that measures water flow volume, primarily for cumulative water flow measurement. It is generally divided into two types: volumetric water meters and velocity water meters. The former has higher accuracy than the latter but requires higher water quality, as it is prone to clogging when containing impurities. The instrument that records the water usage of tap water is installed on the water pipe. When the user releases water, the pointer or numeral wheel on the meter rotates to indicate the amount of water passing through.
Installation Method for Water Meters:
1. The diameter of the water meter should match the diameter of the installation pipe. The installation location should be free from direct sunlight, flooding, freezing, and contamination, and should be convenient for disassembly and card reading.
2. Water meters should be installed horizontally (display facing up).
Before installation, it is essential to remove sand, hemp fibers, and other debris from the pipes to prevent water meter malfunctions.
4. The arrow on the water meter should point in the same direction as the water flow in the pipe.
If the water meter is installed on the inlet side of the boiler, prevent the hot water and steam from the boiler from reversing and damaging the internal components of the water meter by installing a check valve at the outlet of the water meter.
