One: Selection Process for Shelving Systems
The selection process for racking systems primarily includes: the client proposes requirements for the warehouse racking system — suppliers design and select a solution — discuss and optimize the plan — evaluate the rationality and optimization level of the plan — provide quotes — select a supplier — sign the contract — detailed technical design of the racking system — manufacturing of the racking system (materials, processing, surface treatment, packaging, etc.) — installation of the racking system — acceptance.
Buyers' requirements for warehouse racking systems typically include: warehouse floor plan, specifications, characteristics, and weight of unit (packaged) goods, specifications, stacking height, and load capacity of unit pallets, storage and retrieval methods, equipment requirements, volume requirements, frequency of in and out, management system requirements, control methods, etc.

II. Classification of Shelf Systems
Shelf racks can be either fixed or mobile.
Fixed Shelves: Fixed shelves can be further categorized into shelf type, pallet type, drive-in type, gravity flow type, push-back type, mezzanine type, steel structure platforms, cantilever type, mobile type, and drawer type shelves, etc.
Mobile Shelves: Mobile shelves can be further categorized into sliding shelves and rotating shelves, with sliding shelves themselves being divided into light to medium-duty sliding shelves and heavy-duty pallet sliding shelves. Rotating shelves can be further classified into horizontal rotating shelves and vertical rotating shelves.
2. Based on the overall shelving structure being welded or assembled, they can be categorized as...
Welded Racking
Modular Shelving System
Currently, assembled shelving units are widely used domestically.
3. Depending on the relationship between the shelving system and the warehouse architectural structure, they can be categorized as:
Integrated Rack and Shelves System
Racking systems and building roofs form an inseparable unit, with the racking pillars directly supporting the roof load, and the building's envelope (wall structure) installed on the columns on both sides.
(2) Modular Rack System
The shelving system and the building are two separate systems, with no direct connection between them.
4. Unit shelf layer load capacity, generally divided into
Light-duty shelving: Maximum load per shelf not exceeding 200 kg.
Medium-sized shelves: Each layer can bear a load of 200~500KG.
Heavy-duty shelving: Each shelf can support a load of over 500 kg.
5. Categorized by shelf height
Low Shelves: Height under 5 meters.
High-Rack Shelves: Heights ranging from 5M to 12M.
Very High Shelves: Over 12 meters.

Section III: Structural Features, Application Scope, and Selection Principles of Various Shelving Systems
Pallet Racking
Pallet racks are typically manual in operation, featuring modular construction with adjustable shelf spacing. The goods are often loose items or less critical packaged goods (easier for manual handling), with the racks generally below 2.5 meters in height, as reaching is difficult without a ladder (can be set around 3 meters with a lift truck). The span of each individual rack (i.e., length) should not be too long, and the depth (i.e., width) of each rack should not be too great. According to the load capacity per shelf, they can be categorized as light, medium, or heavy-duty pallet racks. The shelf decks are mainly made of steel or wood.
The lightweight shelf racks have a layer load capacity of no more than 200KG per unit, with a total load capacity generally not exceeding 2000KG. The span of each unit shelf typically does not exceed 2M, with a depth not greater than 1M (usually within 0.6M), and a height usually under 3M. The common structure is the angle steel column shelf, which features a light and attractive appearance. It is mainly suitable for storing lightweight and small items. With minimal investment, these racks are widely used in industries such as electronics, light industry, and cultural and educational sectors.
Medium Shelves: Each unit shelf typically supports a load of 200~800KG per level, with a total capacity not exceeding 5,000KG. The span of a unit shelf usually does not exceed 2.6M, the depth does not exceed 1M, and the height is generally under 3M. If the span of the unit shelf is above 2M, a beam-type medium shelf is generally the only option. Beamless medium shelves offer greater adjustability in shelf spacing, are more stable and attractive. They also blend better with the environment and are more suitable for warehouses with high cleanliness requirements; beam-type medium shelves have a stronger industrial character and are more suitable for storing metal structure products. Medium shelves are widely used across various industries.
