




Lolium perenne L., a perennial plant with stems reaching 30-90 cm in height, roots at the base nodes are soft. The leaf sheath is about 2 mm long; leaves are soft, with fine hairs, and sometimes with auricles. Spike-like inflorescence is erect or slightly curved; rachis smooth and hairless; glumes lanceolate, with narrow membranous margins; lemma oblong, herbaceous, smooth, with no awn at the tip; both keels bear short bristles. The fruit is about three times longer than wide. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to July. A high-quality forage grass widely introduced and cultivated in various regions. Commonly found in meadows, roadside wetlands. Widespread in the Kashmir region, Pakistan, Europe, warm temperate regions of Asia, and northern Africa.
