Many friends are asking how to maintain household appliances properly in daily life to ensure their normal operation. Today, I'll share some practical tips for the safe maintenance of appliances. I hope everyone can start keeping their appliances clean and fresh from now on.
Moisture-proof and ventilated
Generally, household appliances are most prone to damage from moisture, as using them in humid environments can easily lead to rust on the casing, reduced insulation, and circuit short-circuit failures, directly threatening the appliance's lifespan and even posing a risk to personal safety. Therefore, it's important to ensure proper moisture protection and ventilation for appliances, and for those not in use for extended periods, it's best to dry them and store them in a sealed container.
2. Dust and dirt sweeping
The mainboard of old TV sets is most prone to accumulating dust, which can lead to short circuits and fires during the rainy season, damaging the TV. Dusting must be done promptly. The casings of various appliances also need regular cleaning; gently wipe with a damp cloth, then dry with a dry cloth. Pay special attention not to dust while the appliances are powered on, and avoid water droplets entering the interior to prevent short circuits.
3. Regular Descaling
The water tank of a water heater is also a haven for dirt and grime, so it's essential to regularly remove and clean the sediment plug, and then wash the tank with detergent and water. Air conditioners are also common appliances that require regular cleaning; it's best to hire professionals and reputable companies to maintain and thoroughly clean the filters and fans. Washing machines can also accumulate dirt, with the inner side of the outer body and the concave surface of the inner drum being the most prone to gathering a large amount of grime, necessitating regular cleaning and descaling.
4. Pay attention to heat dissipation
Some elderly individuals prefer to cover their televisions with dust covers while watching. Old tube televisions can get quite hot in summer, so never cover the ventilation holes on the top of the television with a dust cover; otherwise, internal power components and capacitors may easily short-circuit and burn. The refrigerator's condenser requires ample space for cooling to operate properly. Ensure there is sufficient ventilation around the refrigerator to guarantee effective cooling.
5. Oil-proof
Especially for kitchen small appliances, due to the unique working environment, they inevitably accumulate some oil and smoke to varying degrees, so it's essential to clean them promptly. The surfaces of gas stoves, sterilizers, microwaves, and so on should be wiped regularly with a dry cloth. The range hoods require frequent cleaning to remove oil stains, and the filters should be thoroughly cleaned as well.
6. Complete power shutdown
Unused appliances for an extended period should have their power cords completely unplugged and the AC power disconnected. Many appliances, even when seemingly turned off using remote controls or pressing soft-touch keys, still have their power components working silently in the background, not fully powered off. During thunderstorm seasons, high voltage from lightning strikes can easily enter through outdoor wires into the home, potentially damaging the appliance's power components.
