Polyacrylamide products in solid granular or dry powder form must be weighed for the required amount before use. They then need to be dissolved in a mixing tank with water before they can be utilized. We know that polyacrylamide products are categorized into many series, with commonly used types including anionic, cationic, and non-ionic. Does the dissolution rate of polyacrylamide with different ions vary? Each of these three products has its own specifications and technical parameters. There are also significant differences in their application and usage.

Anionic products can be diluted in any proportion to form a water solution, with a product of 18 million molecular weight typically requiring about 50 minutes to dissolve. They are suitable for use in water treatment applications, as well as in the preparation of industrial products such as adhesives and thickeners. Different viscosity characteristics can be achieved by adjusting the dilution ratio, and due to their low cost, they are highly popular.

Cationic products are primarily used in sludge dewatering, with a lower usage rate than anionic products, but they are priced higher within the polyacrylamide series. Their production process is also very stringent, with only a few domestic manufacturers truly mastering the production technology. The dissolution time varies due to different ionic strength and molecular weights, but generally, it is less than 60 minutes.

Non-ionic polyacrylamide may have slight differences in dissolution time, depending on the manufacturer's level of expertise in the manufacturing process. Generally, it takes about an hour, but some products may require more than an hour. The ideal stirring speed for dissolution is between 200 and 400 RPM per minute. Faster speeds can directly damage the molecular chains of non-ionic products. This series typically needs to be stirred for about 1-2 hours to fully dissolve the powder, at which point the resulting water solution can fully utilize its performance.
